Why do we provide Private Services?

Registered with us?

We provide all the usual NHS services for our registered patients. However, some services are not provided by the NHS and this page gives details of those services and our charges.

Non-registered Patients

We provide some private services to patients who are registered with other GP practices, including acupuncture and occupational medicals.

In addition, we can provide private appointments for patients who are visitors to this country and who do not qualify for NHS treatment.

Payment methods

We accept cash or personal cheques.
Please note: we don't accept payment by credit card.

Visitors

Visitors who need medical attention are welcome at The Little Surgery.

UK residents who are temporarily in the area (and hold an NHS card) will be seen as NHS patients but will need to register with us as "Temporary Residents".

Overseas visitors will need to fulfill the following conditions in order to receive NHS medical treatment:

  • Do you have form E128? If you do, there is no charge.

  • Do you have form E111? If you do, there is no charge for urgent problems or emergencies.

  • Do you have form E112? If you do, there is no charge for the conditions stated on the form and no charge for treatment of urgent problems or emergencies.

  • Do you have none of the above? You do not qualify for NHS treatment and will be charged as a private patient. If you have medical insurance, you can, of course, claim back your costs against your insurance policy. Please ask us for receipts.

Medical Examinations

We can offer the following medical examinations at competitive rates:
  • Sports Medicals
  • Racing Driver Medicals
  • Heavy Goods Vehicle Medical
  • Public Service Vehicle Medical
  • Elderly Driver Medical
These medical examinations are not part of NHS services and our NHS patients should note that there is always a fee for these services.

Certificates

We provide a number of different certificates as part of our NHS Services. For example, statutory sickness pay, maternity certificates and death certificates are provided by the NHS.

However, we get requests for many certificates which are not part of NHS Services. We levy a small charge for the time and work involved in providing these. Examples of certificates which are non-NHS are below:

  • "Sick Notes" in the first 7 days of a period of sickness
  • certificates for insurance purposes (e.g. cancelled holidays)
  • sickness certificates for purposes other than the national sickness schemes (e.g. for jury service, examinations, court appearances, etc.)
  • passport certification

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is provided free of charge to our NHS registered patients.

Other patients may be accepted as private patients for acupuncture treatment. Please read more about acupuncture services.

Most patients need 5 or 6 treatments. You may need to return for occasional top up treatment.

Travel Immunisations

We offer a full range of travel vaccinations, including Yellow Fever. Our practice nurses will provide you with detailed information depending on your travel itinary. Private patients will be charged a small fee for each visit in addition to the cost of the vaccine.

NHS patients should note that we provide travel advice, and administration of immunisations, free of charge. However, many travel vaccines are not covered by the NHS and these vaccines will be charged for. They include the following:

  • Yellow Fever Vaccination
  • Tick Borne Encephalitis
  • Japanese Encephalitis
  • Rabies
Please be aware that some vaccination courses involve a course of 3 injections.

Anti-malarial tablets are not available on the NHS. If you are travelling to a malaria area you will be given a private prescription to take to the pharmacist.
